With Circa Survive on hiatus, Colin Frangicetto and Brendan Ekstrom are getting the old band back together, and by old band I mean This Day Forward. The band broke up in 2003 after releasing In Response on Equal Vision that same year, and now they’ve announced their first shows in over 20 years with the same lineup they had on that album: vocalist Mike Shaw, guitarist/vocalist Vadim Taver (also of A Life Once Lost, Marigold, Superstitions of the Sky), guitarist Brendan Ekstrom, bassist Gary Shaw, and Colin Frangicetto on drums.

“It’s been over 20 years since we’ve played music together so these shows are going to be special,” the band says. “We are beyond excited to see old friends, meet new ones, and celebrate these songs together.”

They’ve announced just two shows: Philly’s Underground Arts on August 24 and NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on August 25. Tickets go on sale Friday (4/12) at 10 AM.

This Day Forward formed in 1996 in the Philadelphia suburbs and released Fragments Of An Untold Story Born By Shunning The Opportunity in 1999 on local label Break Even before signing to Eulogy Recordings for 2000’s The Transient Effects of Light on Water and 2002’s Kairos EP and then signing to Equal Vision for In Response. They toed the line between post-hardcore, metalcore, screamo, and emo, and left an immediate impact on the early 2000s boom of those genres and also had a lasting impact on future generations. If you haven’t heard those classic records, it’s worth changing that.

This Day Forward’s final show was on December 21, 2003 at Philly’s First Unitarian Church with Alexisonfire, Albert React, and A Trunk Full of Dead Bodies. Watch a full-set video from that show below.
