So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
FULL OF HELL – “COAGULATED BLISS”
Every song we’ve heard from Full of Hell’s upcoming album Coagulated Bliss so far has been great, and the just-released title track is one of the best yet. Heavy, chaotic, and one of the band’s most weirdly catchy songs to date.

MARIA CHIARA ARGIRÒ – “FLOATING”
Maria Chiara Argirò has shared another taste of Closer, and a press release says this song is meant to be listened to with your eyes closed. “While writing ‘Floating’, I was deeply thinking about a mind exploration of the reality/unreality of things, life/subconscious/conscious, the quiet moments vs the noise moments and the dreams vs reality. Floating, blurry images that become reality or mix with the imagination and vice-versa,” she says. “Lyrically, it’s like a mantra and we end up floating (in the dreams or reality?).”

Johnson (Bonny Light Horseman/Fruit Bats) and Anna Tivel. Singer/songwriter Eric Earley says the song “[chronicles] my journey through therapy and beyond. It’s a love song at heart about learning to surrender to the flow and impermanence of all things.”

ACETONE – “CINDY” (LIVE)
2023 saw the long-overdue reissue of ’90s-era indie rock / slowcore group Acetone’s entire catalog, but many fans would argue that as good as their records were, on stage is where the magic happened. Double album I’ve Enjoyed As Much Of This As I Can Stand – Live at the Knitting Factory, NYC: May 31, 1998, released for this weekend’s Record Store Day, was recorded on 16-track ADAT on the last night of Acetone’s 1998 tour supporting their self-titled third album (and first for Neil Young’s Vapor Records) and captures them at their peak.

OF MONTREAL – “RUDE GIRL ON ROTATION”
“Rude Girl On Rotation” was inspired, in part, by my impending move from Athens GA to our new home in Vermont,” says of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes. “I used an open tuning on guitar that Nick Drake used a lot on his jammers. The bass line chugs along in a late 60’s West Coast rocker style, influenced by Canned Heat’s “Poor Moon”. I wanted the song to sound loose and under-produced. It took the least amount of time to record, of all the songs on the album.” New album Lady On The Cusp is out May 17.
