So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
COLISEUM – “YOU MIGHT BE DEAD”
Last fall, Coliseum surprise-released a comeback album called Infinity Shit under the name C.L.S.M., and now they’ve released a new single under their regular name. It’s a gritty, anthemic punk/post-hardcore song called “You Might Be Dead.” Band leader Ryan Patterson says, “We had an incredible time making our C.L.S.M. side project/offshoot album that was released last year, but ‘You Might Be Dead’ connects directly to the sound and trajectory we forged when we solidified our identity as a band throughout ‘House With A Curse’, ‘Sister Faith’ and ‘Anxiety’s Kiss’.”

—
GATECREEPER – “MASTERPIECE OF CHAOS”
Phoenix death metallers Gatecreeper have been showing off some new directions on the singles from their upcoming LP Dark Superstition, and “Masterpiece of Chaos” is a dark, heavy one that band leader Chase Mason says “sonically contrasts and compliments the more melodic approach we took to some of the other songs.”
—
ONE STEP CLOSER – “TURN TO ME”
Fresh off their awesome tour with Anxious and Koyo, One Step Closer have shared the third single from their upcoming LP All You Embrace. “Turn To Me” finds the melodic hardcore band at their most anthemic.

—
RICHARD THOMPSON – “FREEZE”
Folk legend Richard Thompson’s classic style is in fine form on “Freeze,” the latest single from his upcoming album Ship To Shore. He says, “Oh, for heaven’s sake, do something. Forwards, backwards, sideways, anything. There is nothing to fear but fear itself… no, I take it back, it’s all terrifying choices. Good luck.”

THIS IS LORELEI – “I’M ALL FUCKED UP”
“‘I’m All Fucked Up’ is just me trying to diagnose/comfort/scold my younger self – an amalgamation of real experiences I had jumbled and reset in inaccurate but contextually relevant locations,” Nate Amos says. It’s from his new album as This Is Lorelei, Box For Buddy, Box For Star, is out in June.

DJ SNAKE & PESO PLUMA – “TEKA”
Corridos tumbados meets EDM on this new DJ Snake and Peso Pluma collab.
—
HANA VU – “22”
“’22’ is about how I was paralyzed by grief and memories and by being 22; all at once a baby and the oldest I’ve ever been,” Hana Vu says of the latest single off her new album Romanticism. “But now I’m 23 and I’ll probably be 24 by the time I’ll get to perform this song for people.”
—
SMO – “CROOKED TEETH”

KATE NASH – “SPACE ODYSSEY 2001”
Kate Nash’s first album in five years, 9 Sad Symphonies, is out in June, and the latest single is “Space Odyssey 2001,” which she says is “a love song about my partner who I was friends with for many years, but we met up at just the right time in the summer of 2017, both single and very unexpectedly fell in love. Romance came back into my life in this effervescent, joyful and healing way. I’d been through so much pain and toxicity. In the video, I arrive at this homestead having been through hell, exhausted and at the point of no return. I am rescued by a half man/half donkey. It’s inspired by Shakespeare and the way his plays use surrealism, fairy tale and classic love stories, but also the genuine complexities of human relationships. I’m taken into this homestead as I’m ready to give up and am healed by sunshine, friendship, food, joy, animals, nature and falling in love with someone you really don’t expect, which transforms me from a broken, bloody mess to a higher level self (in this case, a fairy).”

JOHN GRANT – “THE CHILD CATCHER”
“I’m sure many of you remember the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” says John Grant of the inspiration behind his new single. “Terrified me when I was a kid. Of course he’s a metaphor. Anyway, here’s The Child Catcher from my upcoming record The Art of The Lie, which is also a love letter to both Dead Can Dance and Vangelis, I suppose, two of my all-time favorites.”
—
BEEN STELLAR – “SWEET”
Been Stellar’s debut album, Scream From New York, is out in June, and they’ve shared another early taste, “Sweet.” “We were all intrigued by the simplicity of the verse, it felt like something we would usually shy away from,” vocalist Sam Slocum says. “I really tried to let the music inform the lyrics, and to not overthink what was coming from the song’s natural feeling. One of the first lines that came to me was ‘we’re speaking when we don’t know what to say.’ I think in close relationships, the most pure moments shouldn’t need to be spoken about. And in life in general, the things that matter the most and bring people together shouldn’t warrant many words, if any. Words complicate feeling sometimes.”

EMMA ANDERSON (LUSH) – “INNER LIGHT” (MEMORIALS MIX)
Lush’s Emma Anderson has shared a new version of “Inner Light,” from her 2023 solo debut, which has been reworked by MEMORIALS (aka Electrelane’s Verity Sussman and It Hugs Back’s Matthew Simms). “It kind of slims down the structure but increases the dynamics of the track overall which I love,” says Emma. “There are real drums and more overdriven guitars. Also, the original fades but Matthew and Verity have put an ending on it which is almost my favourite part of the track. It really is a great rework.”
—
PEARL JAM – “WRECKAGE”
On the latest single off Pearl Jam’s new album, Dark Matter, Stone Gossard says, “That one probably has the biggest build for me personally, in terms of hearing it at first and thinking, it’s kind of an Ed song. I wasn’t quite aware of its potency until later. Andrew [Watt] encouraged me to play this little harmonic, acoustic part almost like a Cure melody. I’ve been playing along with the song to relearn it and I’m really looking forward to playing it live. It’s a really powerful lyric and I think we did a really great job of taking something and really pushing it to its limit.”
—
TENDERTWIN – “ASKING”
Tendertwin, aka UK-based Turkish musician Bilge Nur Yilmaz, will release her debut EP Ship Argo on July 5. “This is one of the dark times when I would wake up every day, wondering what would happen if I didn’t— on that thin line where nothing in life feels right,” she says of this single from the EP. “When — you want to reach your arms up above, to whoever might be there, or to the side, or towards a body of water, and go: “Am I asking for too much?” You’re not. And if you had to perform this dangerous dance at any point, and pulled through in resilience— I’m glad you’re here now. And I’m glad I’m here to remind you of this.”
—
WILD YAKS – “SEE THAT GIRL”
NYC’s Wild Yaks have announced Monumental Deeds, the band’s first album in five years, which will be out June 21 via Ernest Jenning Recording Co. “These songs! Most of them were written during COVID when I figured I might die alone without ever finding love and beautiful partnership and affection again,” says bandleader Rob Bryn. “It’s our best record yet.”

KING HANNAH – “DAVEY SAYS”
“We wanted this to be a raucous, fuzzy, light-hearted moment in the album, but to still have that feeling of ‘youcandoanything-ness,’” says King Hannah singer/guitarist Hannah Merrick. “The opening line ‘Meet me before the party, I don’t want to walk in alone’ is our attempt at that classic American 90’s imagery, of coming-of-age nostalgia and romance, of late warm summer nights when the future is draped in front of you.” New album Big Swimmer is out May 31.
