So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

DEBBY FRIDAY – “TO THE DANCEFLOOR”

DEBBY FRIDAY is back with a new single she co-produced with Holy Fuck’s Graham Walsh, and Detroit ghettotech producers, HiTech. “I <3 the internet,” says DEBBY of the song’s video. “I got the idea from watching Youtubers and TikTokers and thinking about how I used to spend hours playing games like Sims 3 and IMVU.”

SHANNON & THE CLAMS – “BIG WHEEL”

Shannon & The Clams have shared another song from their upcoming The Moon Is In The Wrong Place. Sung by guitarist Cody Blanchard, this song “is a meditation on how time and reality become distorted in the face of sudden loss – the feeling of helplessness as time marches on after someone dies, like the feeling of being strapped into a ferris wheel seat that you don’t want to be on, everything has ‘gone off the track.’”

WINTER – “SALLOW”

Winter announced a new EP, …and she’s still listening, due out on May 24. The lead single is “Sallow,” which combines elements of shoegaze and trip-hop. “The words came out through a stream of conscious improvisation as I stumbled upon the word ‘Sallow’ only to realize it meant ‘pale sun,’ which perfectly captured the song,” she says.

ISLANDS – “DROWN A FISH”

Canadian band Islands will release their 10th album, What Occurs, on June 21 via Elf. “I’d been listening to a bit of The Three O’Clock, Elvis Costello & The Attractions (This Year’s Model and Armed Forces, specifically), and Kiwi Jr, and wanted to craft my version of a solid power pop song,” says Nick Diamonds of the album’s lead single. “We recorded the song as a quartet (the same lineup since 2013), by sitting together in one room—a tucked away studio on Vancouver Island—and playing the song live, in a single take. Like a rock and roll band should! We sat down in a circle, learned the song, and then immediately pressed record. And that’s what you hear.”

J NOA – “CENICIENTA”

Dominican rapper J Noa has been deservingly on the rise, and today she drops this hard-nosed new single with a nostalgia-inducing, turnablism-infused beat from Trooko (Residente, Bad Bunny).

JADASEA – “NOT MUCH 2 SAY”

UK rapper Jadasea has announced a new album, Too Many Tears, due May 2 via MIKE’s 10k label, and the first single is the head-nod-inducing “Not Much 2 Say.”

CAREER WOMAN – “STAGE PLAY”

Career Woman’s new single, “Stage Play,” is a remake of 2022’s “Dream Journal,” which featured Great Grandpa’s Al Menne. “I feel like it’s clear how much more comfortable we are with each other on this recording, and it is so fitting for the message of the song,” she says. “I am in disbelief how I’ve been able to surpass my expectations and goals already when it comes to music. Playing shows went from being my biggest fear to my most comfortable and confident place, and singing ‘all of this wishing, it is all kind of coming true’ on stage always gives me chills. I am super grateful for my band for bringing this song and this project to their fullest potential.”

ALCEST – “FLAMME JUMELLE”

Atmospheric black metal trailblazers have shared another taste of their anticipated new LP Les Chants De L’Aurore.

INTER ARMA – “DESOLATION’S HARP”

The great, experimental band Inter Arma’s new album New Heaven finally arrives next week (4/16) via Relapse, and here’s one more taste.

FROZEN SOUL – “CREATURE OF THE WHEEL” (WHITE ZOMBIE COVER)

The coldest band in death metal has covered a track from White Zombie’s 1995 classic Astro-Creep: 2000, and it comes with a video too.

BLOOMSDAY – “VIRTUAL HUG”

Bloomsday’s second album, Heart of the Artichoke, is out in June, and the latest single is “Virtual Hug.” “As this song came to me, I was thinking a lot about how my best friend was moving to LA,” they say. “I hadn’t spent time away from them for longer than a week before, and was trying to imagine what that might be like. My partner and their best friend are on opposite coasts so I’ve seen them weave one another into their daily life for a week or weekend at a time, and then hug goodbye in tears, flying off until their next reunion.”

ME REX – “GOODBYE FOREVER”

UK emotive indie rock band ME REX return with new single “Goodbye Forever.”

COLOR GREEN – “FOUR LEAF CLOVER”

LA psychedelic rock band Color Green have signed to New West Records for their just-announced sophomore album, Fool’s Parade, and you can read about lead single “Four Leaf Clover” here.

ALICE GLASS – “DROWN” (SMASHING PUMPKINS COVER)

Alice Glass’ first new music of 2024 is a cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Drown.” “I believe in the power of art to transcend betrayal and disappointment,” she writes. “‘Drown’ is not just a cover; it’s a testament to resilience and artistic integrity. This track was created after we were asked to be a part of an exciting compilation that ultimately didn’t end up happening. But I didn’t want that to stop us from sharing our interpretation of this iconic Smashing Pumpkins track. This release is a declaration of autonomy and a reminder that true artistry cannot be stifled by broken promises.”

THE MEN – “I SEE THE LIGHT”

Manhattan Fire is an alternate version of The Men’s 2023 album New York City that’s coming out for Record Store Day. “There are guitars, bass, piano, synth, drum machines, waves, birds, fires, poems and SM-57 vocals on this record,” say the band. “A lot of different sounds. A few of these tracks appeared on 2023’s New York City. In fact, this record was somewhat of an accidental blueprint for that release. If there never was a full pandemic recovery, this would have been a new band. Thankfully, the end times didn’t happen and the full band rolls on. Somewhere in the apprehension of death and recovery this collection was made.” It’s vinyl only but the band have shared a taster.

SPIRITUAL CRAMP – “SAY WHATEVER YOU MEAN” FT WHITE REAPER

Spiritual Cramp and White Reaper will be touring together this summer, and in celebration of that they’re also releasing a split-7″.

The album features contributions from Barrie, Ibibio Sound Machine, Hayden Thorpe (ex Wild Beasts), Alabaster DePlume, his Hot Chip bandmates Alexis Taylor and Al Doyle, JUNGLE‘s Tom McFarland, UK rapper Oranje, Findia, Fiorious, and Guinean vocalist Falle Nioke.
