A six-part revival of hospital series Green Wing was released on Audible yesterday (April 29), and fans are taking to social media to show their support.

The original sitcom ran between 2004 and 2006, and was created by Smack The Pony producer Vicky Pile. Starring Tamsin Greig and Mark Heap of Friday Night Dinner, along with comedian Stephen Mangan and Fleabag star Olivia Colman, the series follows the lives of staff at a fictional NHS hospital.

Now, ahead of the 20th anniversary of the release of the first series, an audio reboot of the show has been made, titled Green Wing: Resuscitated.

The reboot sees many of the original cast, including Colman, Mangan and Grieg reprising their roles. Also returning are Michelle Gomez, Oliver Chris and Karl Theobald.

The series revisits the characters as Grieg’s Caroline Todd is working as a medical pioneer in the US, Mangan’s Guy Secretan is working as a TV personality and Martin, played by Theobald, has still not qualified as a doctor.

Fans of the original series are now expressing their excitement about the reboot on social media.

One user wrote on X: “This show was one of Britain’s finest. It needs significantly more series and more exposure imo”. Another agreed, saying: “It’s amazing. Listened to all of it today. Well produced. Actors were all back into character so well and it felt like I’ve just watched another series. So so so good. Well done all involved!!”

Some fans are disappointed the reboot has only been made as an audio series. One wrote: “Please put it back on the telly!!!!” while another said: “Great, but why only Audible? Would love a new TV series!”

Another user reviewed the series on X, writing: “Green Wing: Resuscitated was everything I’ve needed and more, literally stepped back into that world seamlessly! Caroline and Guy are my forever OTP”.

All six episodes of Green Wing: Resuscitated are available to listen to now on Audible.
