Max Richter has announced his new album ‘In A Landscape’, and shared details of what will be his first-ever world tour – find ticket details below.
The new LP will mark the highly anticipated ninth studio album from the German-British composer and pianist. It is set for release on September 6 via Decca.
According to a press release, the project will mark a significant evolution in Richter’s extensive musical journey, and see him dig deeper into motifs including optimism and human emotion. These will also be accompanied by an innovative exploration of electronic sounds and field recordings.
“It is a record about reconciling polarities, bringing together the electronic and the acoustic, the human and the natural world, the big questions of life and the quiet pleasures of living – a fleeting self-portrait of a musician in constant motion,” it reads. Check out the stunning first single, ‘Movement, Before All Flowers’ below and pre-order the album here.
“For me, the music on the record is about connecting or reconciling polarities. The electronics with the acoustic instruments, the natural world with the human world, and the big ideas of life with the personal and intimate,” Richter said of the inspiration behind the album.
He also revealed that it has ties to one of his past releases. “This is a dynamic I started to explore in my 2004 record ‘The Blue Notebooks’, and the new project shares many of that album’s concerns,” he explained.
“In a way this record is another look at the themes of the earlier work, but from the perspective of our world and our lives in 2024.”
In support of ‘In A Landscape’, Richter has also announced details of his first-ever world tour. Set to take place across the latter part of 2024 and first half of 2025.
The shows start on September 7, with an opening night at La Bâtie-Festival de Genève in Geneva, before continuing with eight shows across the UK and Ireland later in the year. These kick off with a slot at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on October 28, which is followed by two shows in Dublin.
Performances in Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol follow suit, and the UK leg of the tour wraps up with two back-to-back shows at London’s Royal Festival Hall on November 8 and 9 respectively.
Richter will then embark on a series of European tour dates throughout the remainder of 2024, including shows in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Munich and more, before picking the tour up again in February 2025 for five shows across Australia.
Finally, the last leg of the world tour will commence in Spring 2025, when Richter heads over to North America for nine final dates. These start with a show at Boston’s Colonia Theatre on April 26, and continue with dates in Toronto, Washington, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Chicago and Oakland.
The extensive stint concludes with a penultimate show at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on May 5, followed by a final performance at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall on May 10.
