Bottom Bracket are a mathy emo band who hail from the always-strong mathy emo hotbed of Chicago, and they just signed to a label that’s been dedicated to this kind of music for almost two decades, Count Your Lucky Stars. Their first single for the label is “Unsavory,” which follows their 2020 debut LP I Don’t Care Enough to Stay and 2022 EP A Figure In Armor. It’s catchy, fidgety, and energetic in a way that reminds me of Proper-era Into It. Over It., and Bottom Bracket bring a fresh new perspective and do that kind of thing really well.

“‘Unsavory’ is the first glimpse of us as a mature band, weathered after the past four years of both obstacles and triumphs,” vocalist/guitarist Mario Cannamela tells us. “It marks the first of many songs where there’s a more concerted effort to focus on writing the music and lyrics simultaneously. We also lean into some unique grooves while maintaining the twinkles and flashy guitars – I think this is one of our strongest displays of songwriting yet.”

“The song paints the scene of one of many hard goodbyes I’ve had to make during this time, a close friend who exited my life quicker than I could comprehend after struggling with accountability,” Mario continues. “This one is for everyone who has had to move on from someone they loved dearly in their life, despite how painful it maybe was to do so.”

Listen below, and check out the band’s list of Midwest tour dates, including Ohio emo festival Fauxchella (with Heart Attack Man, Ogbert the Nerd, Equipment, Stars Hollow, Blind Equation, Snow Ellet, TRSH, Harrison Gordon, Hey ily!, Red Sun, and more).
