Fresh off releasing their great new album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, Knocked Loose brought their headlining tour to NYC for two shows: Brooklyn Steel on May 30 and Terminal 5 on May 31. Both nights sold out quickly after they were announced. We caught the first night which was in fact packed, and which also had the entire place moving from start to finish. All three openers also had their share of moshing, but the way the room erupted when KL dramatically took the stage, dropped a curtain, and broke into “Blinding Faith” off the new record, made all of that came before seem like nothing, and it never stopped. It was non-stop intensity by one of the best heavy bands going. Bryan Garris and Isaac Hale trade off vocals and giving the crowd encouragement to move and scream along. Two-stepping, crowd surfing, circle pits, and more took over the floor through the encore which ended with a giant wall of death for 2023 pre-album single “Everything is Quiet Now…”

Knocked Loose have always been a next-level live band and they just keep getting better and better, pro lightshow included. If you missed them in NYC this time around you’ll have another chance when they return to open for Slipknot at Madison Square Garden on August 12. Remains to be seen if the floor of the Garden will also break out into a wall of death.
Even before Knocked Loose took the stage, this was a great show that kicked off with rising Australian hardcore band Speed (whose anticipated debut album Only One Mode arrives July 12 via Flatspot/Last Ride and is available on exclusive vinyl in the BV shop), followed by UK shoegazy alt-metal band Loathe and NYC’s undefinable Show Me The Body, who were just as great at Brooklyn Steel on Thursday as they were when they headlined the same venue last year.
