Something Corporate still inspire the kind of devotion that led one enterprising fan to make a “friendship bracelet” — really more of a friendship necklace than the beaded bracelets that fans have been trading at Taylor Swift shows — with the lyrics to all 9+ minutes of the band’s 2000 opus “Konstantine.” Frontman Andrew McMahon wore it draped around his neck as he began the encore to Thursday night’s (6/20) show at Brooklyn Steel, the first night of the band’s first tour in 14 years, and launched into the piano intro of that song. The crowd, which had already been roaring and singing along the whole night, collectively lost their minds. It was nearly 10 minutes of mass nostalgic catharsis, a high point in an evening full of them.

This tour follows Something Corporate’s sets at When We Were Young 2023 and Las Vegas warmup show for the fest, which was their actual first show in 13 years, and McMahon, who sported a beatific grin when he wasn’t speaking, singing, or pounding away on the piano, talked a bit between songs on Thursday about how great it was to be back with his bandmates in 2024. He also talked about the couple of new songs they’d recorded, one of which, “Death Grip,” got its live debut at the show after being released that morning. They projected the lyrics on the video screen behind them so people could sing along.

No one needed a visual aid to sing along with many of the band’s other beloved tracks, though. The setlist leaned mostly on favorites from 2002’s Leaving Through the Window, including unavoidable hit “I Woke Up In A Car,” “Punk Rock Princess,” and “Hurriane,” and 2003’s North, including “Me and the Moon,” “21 and Invincible,” and “She Paints Me Blue.” They also pulled out “Little” from their 2001 Audioboxer EP, and a few songs from their obscure debut LP, 2000’s Ready…Break. See the setlist below, along with attendee-taken video from their set.

Zac Clark, formerly of McMahon’s In The Wilderness band, who is currently playing in Something Corporate, opened the night with a surprise solo set, which was followed by Days Away, playing their first show in 16 years. See pictures from the whole night below.

The “Out of Office” tour continues with a second NYC show tonight (6/21) at The Rooftop at Pier 17, also with Days Away, and hits Asbury Park, NJ’s Stone Pony Summer Stage on August 23, with Hidden in Plain View.
